How can I join or get involved?

Anyone who is interested in the American Civil War will be considered for membership. Those who are interested are invited to visit us at our monthly business meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at the Lake Murray Visitor’s Center in the historic Lorick Plantation Home and Museum located at 2184 North Lake Dr. (also know as #6 & Old Bush River Rd.) just past the dam toward Ballentine, SC.

Our meetings begin with drill at 6:30 pm followed by the business meeting at 7:00 pm. To become a member, all that is required is that you read and agree to our bylaws; be willing to do both Confederate and Federal impressions; attend three events each year with us; and be approved by a general vote of membership.

We portray the Confederate soldier as members of the 20th SC Volunteer Infantry and the Federal Soldier as the 13th US Regular Infantry, Company C. In addition, there are also other civilian and non-combatant impressions that can be portrayed, should you prefer your participation be non-military.

There is a considerable amount of investment once you join the 20th. Each member is responsible for procuring their own equipment and uniform kit within the first year as a member; however it is not required to have all this equipment before joining us. In the interim, the 20th will assist you by providing the necessary equipment needed to participate. We are always glad to help newcomers to get started.

What is Living History?

Living History is doing it. When you read a book you get a vivid image in your mind of what things were like "back then". Participating in living history provides you with a three dimensional aspect of "what it was like". You find yourself stepping into the "first person" as you don the uniform, carry the accouterments, fire the musket, eat the hardtack, socialize around the campfire, march into a battle-line, and face into a cannon's roar. Then these experiences are used to teach and educate the public about the experiences you have had first hand and the lessons you have learned. It is the closest possible way to accurately place yourself into the footsteps of those who have come before, to Live the History.
